Rila - Boat deisgn & 1:15 scale model

The Rila, a dawn till dusk tour boat offering guests an exclusive and tranquil experience of the Milford Sounds. The inspirations for its function stems from the Venetian gondola’s intimate touring style, and it’s form, influenced by the Riva boat, a symbol of elegance. By adopting these influences, the output is a redesigned discovery boat, shifting a traditional commercial vessel into an embodiment of luxury and style.
The interior space is designed to utilize the base of the vessel, providing guests with a unique viewing area for waterfall immersion, sheltered seating and bathroom facilities.
The top deck has a centered flow, allowing guests to walk either side to take in all that Milford Sounds has to offer. The drivers platform is raised to aid with visibility and sound clarity during the tour sessions run by the on board staff.
The furniture is easily adjusted to cater for the fluctuating numbers on board, with the inclusion of a day bed that converts into a bar and feature wall for night time dusk entertainment.
The exterior form is drawn from the wake of the water created by the Rila, shown on the continuity lines of the outer shape, and the roof texture.
The back deck supplies stern boarding and activity equipment storage, with the kayaks easily deployable underneath the top deck.
